Wednesday 4 April 2018

Students visiting in April 2017 were given a warm welcome by staff and students. Welcome to the 6ix!

Downsview students were happy to serve our guests a variety of food from a Downsview alumni's restaurant, Euro Shawarma.

Bruno Berto gave a moving speech at lunch, that was truly inspirational.
Students provided our guests with gifts which included artwork donated by Toronto artists Frances Patella and Joseph Muscat (both of whom also taught at Downsview once upon a time).
Anna MacKay, Prinicpal of Mikisew School gave a lovely speech, which everyone was so happy to be able to hear.
Downsview was then presented with this amazing quilt from Cross Lake, Pimicikamak Cree Nation.
Elaine explained the star quilt and the meaning each of the animals shown on the quilt represent. Respect, Honesty, Truth, Wisdom, Courage, Humility, and Love.
Elaine then offered a smudge to all of the students and staff at Downsview. An experience that no one will ever forget.

Their last day in town we took them on a trip with 32 Downsview students to visit Itah Sadu at "A Different Booklist". Itah gave a wonderful talk about Toronto's history and the underground railroad.

Students were then able to try the steel pan, and were teaching each other dance moves in front of the Icon (and now gone) Honest Ed's.

Students trading dance and jigg moves on Bathurst.

Walking the streets of Toronto past Varsity Arena.

To City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square.

And of course the Toronto sign!

An encounter with Toronto's spiderman before a trip up the CN Tower.

Once the tallest building in the world.
 Up the elevator we go!

We needed the day and our adventures with an evening at the Jays game, and Mikisew was even put on the Jumbo-tron!
