First Night in Toronto - welcome to our home

We had a lovely reunion of sorts as the students who went to Cross Lake from Toronto were all invited over for dinner at one of the teachers homes to meet the students and staff visiting from Cross Lake on their first night in the city. It was a really special nights with teachers and students form all three schools sharing stories and laughs! There may have been some video games played, and instruments as well!

They're here in Turrono!

We welcomed our friends from Mikisew High School into Toronto on a rainy, foggy Monday afternoon. Welcome to the place where the people in Toronto call it TURRONO.

Trivia Night Success!

Thanks to everyone who came out to Trivia night at Earlscourt and all the wonderful people who donated prizes again - Mandela Design and Henderson Brew Pub in particular!!! !
We raised over $1700 to help offset the cost to show off our city to the Mikisew High School students and staff.

Brady Keeper - A Cross Lake star!

We're very excited to see that one of Cross Lake's hockey players was signed to the NHL this year! The Florida Panthers signed Brady Keeper and he played his first game this season. Cross Lake held a big welcome home parade for Brady this week. So great seeing good things happening! Congratulations to Brady Keeper!

NHL player transforms community
A remote First Nation community that saw a suicide epidemic in 2016 is now full of hope. One of their own, Brady Keeper, returned home Wednesday as a member of the NHL’s Florida Panthers. Stefanie Lasuik reports on the hero’s welcome.

Excited for Mikisew Students to Come to TO!

Seven students and three educators will be coming to Toronto in May! We are very busy planning for their trip and can't wait to show them this huge city! Many of the students will have never been outside of Cross Lake, MB so we want to make it special.
We will be hosting a Trivia night at Earlscourt BBQ again, to help offset some of the cost of their travels. Hopefully you can make it out!

Snowshoes in use!

Grade 8 students at Mikisew School went out snow shoeing today in the woods! Thanks again to MEC for the amazing donation and to the students at Downsview and Humberside who helped transport them to Cross Lake!

Books arrived a few weeks ago!

It took a little longer then expected but all the wonderful books that were donated arrived at Mikisew School! There were so many books that they wouldn't all fit in the library! Extra books were sold at a book sale to raise money for money school programs!
