Winnipeg - Sat, April 28
Yesterday we arrived in Winnipeg! We met at Pearson at 7:40am. Much like the school trip we took when Vross Lake Student came to Toronto everyone arrived at the airport super early! Some students took the bus to the airport, and to be sure they weren’t late left their homes at 3am. One student worked until midnight and then left at 3am. They were at the airport by 4am waiting.
It was an incredible day. Downsview and Humberside students were quick to introduce themselves and make friends. Two students had never flown before so it was very exciting and fun to experience this with them.
We got our rental vans at the airport (Prinn was told the wrong spot so we loaded the wrong van at first but quickly figured out the van was in another spot when it wouldn’t start).
After checking into the hotel downtown we walked to Earls restaurant for a nice lunch together before heading the the Canadian Human Rights Museum. We had a wonderful guide who explained a lot about Indigenous culture and the artwork on display. It turns out she has friends in Cross Lake and is expecting moose meat on Monday from Cross Lake in exchange for her banana cream pies. Such a wonderfully small world.
We went to the Forks afterward to check out the shops and get takeaway to eat at the hotel as we were all very exhausted. Ms de Jersey and Prinn went to get groceries and water for our 8-9 hour drive which we are about to do to Cross Lake! Since Cross Lake is usually on a boil water advisory we bought large jugs of water for all of the rooms.
We are all very excited and it’s a gorgeous day! Sun is shining and it’s suppose to get close to 20 degrees in Winnipeg!
